Young Children...
Without question, young children can be very successful at learning to play the guitar.  I enjoy working with kids.  It's fantastic when a child discovers early on that they love music.  They will benefit so much in life from the skills and disciplines learning a musical instrument (like guitar) will develop within them.

Here are two basic guidelines to consider before enrolling your child in lessons:

1) ATTENSION SPAN:  Every child is different in this area.  Generally, by age 10 kids are capable of focusing for an hour lesson, practicing through the week and really enjoying lessons.  I've taught lots of kids between 10-12 and they do super!  Children younger than 10, in my experience stuggle a little bit to focus.  Of course it's an individual call.  If you think your child is ready--send me an email and we can talk about it..

2) HAND SIZE:  You do not need large hands to play the guitar, but little fingers do need to be large enough to hold a guitar.  You can purchase, or I can help you purchase a "three quarter scale" (smaller than normal) sized guitar-designed especially for small children.  I actually offer a special deal for beginner students who need a smaller guitar like this!  Check out the "Special Deals" link.

MY MAIN GOAL WITH YOUNG CHILDREN is to have fun, and help them have fun and really enjoy music and the guitar.  Of course we'll learn lots of good stuff about playing the gutiar, but at this young age, it's all about making guitar fun----something they will always think of as a good thing in their life---and not as that horrible instrument that I have to praactice..  :- )

QUESTIONS? CONTACT ME:  The above are the primary issues to consider.  I would be happy to talk to you about any questions you may have.  It would be a privilege and an honor to teach your child.  Let me know how I can help
