If you want to become a Christian (one who trusts and follows Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord)... It's the very best decision you will ever make! Here's how you do it... 1. BELIEVE and CONFESS--Believe in your heart that Jesus is who He said he was-the Son of God and the Savior of the World… believe He died on the cross to pay for your sins. Confess to him that you know you've sinned and that you need and want His grace and forgiveness in your life... and that you want to follow Him as your Lord. Romans 10:9 "...if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and eve in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." 2. REPENT and RECEIVE-- to repent literally means to "turn around" or "change direction". And in this case it means to turn way from sin and toward Jesus… Simply talk to God about this... tell him, "Father (God wants us to approach Him as our Heavenly Father), I'm done living life on my terms… I want to follow Jesus as my Savior and my Lord (Master/King). Please forgive me for my sins… thank you for dying on the cross for me! I receive you into my life as my Savior. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen." Acts 3:19 "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord..." John 1:12 "...to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." 3. FOLLOW-- In other words, begin to LIVE a life the expresses your faith in Christ. Here are some ways to do that. Get plugged in to a good, Bible believing, Church-where you can learn what the Bible teaches about who God is… what He is like and what He wants us to do in this world. Jesus calls us to FOLLOW HIM repeatedly in the gospels... This is what living the Christian life is all about! Matthew 16:24 "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone would come after
me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'" Mark 1:17 "'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.'" Luke 9:23 "Then he said to them all: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.'" John 10:27 "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." John 12:26 "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me." One of the very first things you will want to do in "following Jesus" is to be "baptized." Truthfully... reading this article can make it seem like Confessing, Believe, Repenting, Receiving, and Baptism are all very "separate" acts... and on paper they are... but in REAL LIFE... they all happen together. You REPENT and RECEIVE because you BELIEVE... you CONFESS because you BELEIVE... and you are BAPTIZED because you BELIEVE... (by the way--all of these are acts of "faith"--which is belief in action!) they all sort of work together. There ya go!
