Pastor Brad's 80s Christian Metal Guitar World! Back to Guitar Jams METAL MUSIC Metal Trivia Guitar Lessons Contact PB Is "Rock-n-Roll" evil? I get this question a lot. So I thought I'd devote a page to one of the notes I received. Hope you find this helpful! Metal Bro's initial question... I was reading on a site where these "anti-rock" guys say that rock and roll is wrong because the name "rock and roll" derives from "the practice of fornication by teenagers in the back seat of a car.And they say that makes Christian rock wrong. But,how could that mean the music itself is inherently evil? Here is the link http://www.kapelovitz.com/christianmetal.htm It also says they played rock music to plants and it killed them,so "rock kills" God continually uses Christian metal to encourage my walk with him and I believe he gave me the passion for the music I like.God creates us with our unique interest'.Doesn't the Bible talk about how he created us all different? Thanks and God Bless! In Christ, M.B. My response... Okay M.B., here's what you need to do... Go to Romans, chapter 14 and read that chapter... HERE'S THE BACKGROUND ON THIS PASSAGE: It's all about "meat sacrificed to idols"... You see many in the church at Rome had come out of a pagan background--that included sacrificing to idols... Once they were saved--some of them really had a hard time with eating any meat if they knew it had been sacrificed to an idol... others were totally fine with it... in their mind they had come to understand that idols were just stone or wood... and so if they could get meat at a discount price (they always sold the sacrificed meat cheap!)... then that was great... but--this obviously set up a dispute in the church... Paul calls the Bro who has no prob with it the "strong" and the one who struggles with it the "weak" (it's not a put down)... Anyway-- one of the major emphasis of this passage is the whole idea of how to handle differences of OPINION...i.e. what to do when there is no clear THOU SHALT or THOU SHALT NOT in Scripture--you see there was no clear command either way regarding whether to eat meat sacrificed to idols--and there was a difference of opinion on the matter... so... THIS IS A PERFECT example of how to handle the difference of opinion over Rock-n-Roll... Read the chapter--every time you see a reference to the "strong" bro think "rocker"... every time you see a reference to the "weak" bro think "anti-rocker"... It should shed some light on the subject for you. Blessings, Pastor Brad M.B.'s reply... I read Romans 14. I think I see what you talking about, people were not eating certain foods because they didn't have the faith that they were fine to eat,is that right? I believe the Lord has gave me peace about my music. But,satan tries to confuse me,alot. Thanks and God Bless! M.B. My response... Yes M.B... that's the gist of the passage... to say it another way--Some in Rome were of the opinion that eating meat was bad--because it was "associated" with an evil thing (idol worship)... while others had no prob with it because in their minds--idols were just sticks and stones... Apply that to rock-n-roll... Some in our world today are of the opinion that rock music meat is bad--because it is often "associated" with evil thins (sex, drugs, rebellion, etc)... while others have no prob with it because in their minds--rock music is simply notes, beats and words... and as long as the notes and words are played/sung by people who love Jesus... or at least don't sing about things that are evil.. then the music is fine. Make sense? Blessings, pb.. M.B.'s reply... Yes, it makes sense. You explained it well. Thanks alot for all your help!!! God Bless! M.B. |
